Explain how the director creates tension in a scene in the film.
- Tension means intense
- Lack of sound and then a sudden high pitched sound (violin)
- Medium close up on her face – we see it go from confused to petrified (scared/shocked) as the door slams and she is thrown backwards.
Paragraph:
The director creates tension through the use of music and sound. For example when Grace was curious about why the door kept closing, and she was pushing it backwards and forwards, there was no music. The only sound was the door squeaking as it moved. It was very quiet. When the door suddenly slams, a high pitched violin starts playing, the door slams shut and she is thrown backwards. The lack of music creates tension because it suggests to the audience that nothing is wrong. We are lulled into a sense of false security. When the door slams and the music starts with a high pitch it raises our heart rate and makes us jump because it was so quiet before. This is how the director creates tension.
